About British Railway

What the game is about and where to play it

British Railway is one of Roblox's most detailed train simulation games, developed by Fourth Rail (a verified group) and active since July 2022. Players take control of British-prototype rolling stock, guard friend's trains by checking tickets, or explore the expanding network as passengers. The game has reached 31.1 million visits with 500-1,500 concurrent players and an outstanding 87% approval rating.

Version 1.4 ("The Coastal Update") added three new train classes and a coastal extension to Brynmouth, bringing the network to seven main branches across a detailed map. Players progress through a Credits and Points system that unlocks more complex routes. The three main roles offer very different experiences:

  • 🚗 Driver - take control of a train cab, managing speed, signals, station stops, and door operations
  • 💼 Guard - ride in the rear cab, check passenger tickets, manage door dispatch, and coordinate with the driver
  • 🗺️ Passenger - board running services and explore the network without operational duties
  • 🏆 Distance badges - earn milestones at 10, 100, and 1,000 miles driven as a driver
  • 🎭 Easter eggs - find Maxwell and the Tardis, hidden somewhere on the map and moved with every update

The Credits system rewards route completion with drivers and guards earning proportionally more from longer, more complex Intercity services. The credit track unlocks access to a growing train roster including Classes 142, 150, 156, 158, 170, 180, 220, 221, 230, 321, 350, 800, 801, and 802, each with multiple real-world British TOC liveries.

British Railway has no gamepasses, operating entirely free-to-play, and maintains one of the most comprehensive Fandom wikis on the platform at britishrailway.fandom.com with over 4,000 pages. For similar Roblox rail experiences, Roblox Train Simulator offers another entry point to the genre.
