Murder Mystery 2 is the defining title of the Roblox murder mystery genre, created by solo developer Nikilis and running continuously since January 2014 with over 25 billion visits and 100K-200K concurrent players. Each round in a 12-player server assigns one of three asymmetric roles: the Murderer (knife-armed, must eliminate everyone), the Sheriff (the only armed Innocent, must take down the Murderer), and Innocents (unarmed majority who must survive or pick up the Sheriff's dropped gun to become a Hero).

The Seer knife functions as the baseline trading unit, and top Chroma items are valued at tens of thousands of units. A major Season 2 overhaul is actively in development as of 2026, with the developer team of Nikilis, Idah, and Zilique describing features never before seen in the game.

MM2 shares its asymmetric hidden-role format with Murder Mystery 3, but its decade-old trading economy gives it a depth no competitor has matched.
