Colony

Colony is a zombie survival and base-building sandbox game in Alpha by developer group Crunchy Orc, where players construct fortifications, recruit NPC survivors, assign jobs and weapons, mine resources, and research new technologies to hold off increasingly powerful nightly zombie waves. Launched in September 2023 and last updated in April 2026, it has accumulated 64.8 million visits with 300-700 concurrent players across 35-player cooperative servers.

Each play session alternates between two high-stakes phases:

• 🏠 Build your fort - construct walls, towers, and defensive structures during the day phase using mined resources
• ⚔️ Defend at night - zombie waves attack each night and grow stronger with every cycle survived
• 💼 Manage survivors - recruit NPC survivors and assign them as workers, miners, or fighters to maximize efficiency
• 🗺️ Mine the terrain - destructible terrain provides resources that fuel both construction and the technology tree
• 💎 Research technologies - unlock new buildings, weapon types, and upgrades through a dedicated research mechanic
• ⏳ Survive as long as possible - there is no fixed win condition; the goal is to outlast escalating zombie pressure

The cooperative structure supports up to 35 players in a single server, enabling teams to specialize - some players managing construction while others focus on combat or resource gathering. Badge data tracks the survival curve: about 47% of players survive night 1, roughly 26% reach night 3, and fewer still push toward night 10.

Colony sits in the same space as classic build-to-survive games but adds meaningful depth through its survivor management and technology research layers. Its active Discord community makes it a strong choice for players who want cooperative zombie defense with more strategy than typical tower defense games on Roblox.
