About dingus
dingus is a retro-styled prop hunt game developed solo by DecimalCubed, launched in July 2023 and approaching 100 million visits with 529K+ favorites and an 88.1% approval rating. It runs on 50-player servers - one of the highest capacities in the prop hunt genre - creating genuinely chaotic large-group dynamics across four hand-crafted maps.
Each round splits players into two teams with opposite objectives:
- π Hiders - disguised to look identical to NPCs (gray skin, randomized shirt colors) and tasked with completing objectives while blending into the crowd
- βοΈ Hunters - scanning the server to identify and shoot Hiders among a sea of look-alike NPCs before the timer runs out
- πΊοΈ Four maps - Classic Beach, Wild West, Cliffside, and Street, each with different layouts and hiding opportunities
- π Progress Bar - Hiders fill a visible red bar by completing tasks, giving Hunters a live threat indicator to react to
- π Ghost form - eliminated players spectate as ghosts rather than leaving, keeping the social energy alive between rounds
- βοΈ Wrong person! - a penalty badge that Hunters receive for shooting NPCs instead of Hiders, raising the cost of careless guesses
The 2024 Refresh Update overhauled gameplay with a two-mode system and made the core experience "less confusing" per the developer's own patch notes. dingus maintains a deliberately irreverent, comedic identity - the description calls it "the best game ever made honestly" - which has built a strong community culture reflected in its active Fandom wiki with 276 pages.
The votekick system (!votekick command) lets players police disruptive users without moderator intervention, which is unusual for party games of this scale and reflects the developer's attention to the social experience.
