About Galactic Speedway Creator Challenge

What the game is about and where to play it

Galactic Speedway Creator Challenge was the fourth and largest entry in Roblox's Creator Challenge educational event series, run by Roblox from November 19, 2019 through February 3, 2020. Co-promoted with the Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Studios film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (theatrical release December 20, 2019), it expanded the standard three-lesson Creator Challenge format into six lessons - doubling the reward pool and making it the most ambitious entry in the series.

The event taught Roblox Studio scripting through six progressive lessons, each gating a free space-themed avatar item:

  • πŸ’Ž Lesson 1: Saturn Ring Hat - planet-ring-styled avatar hat
  • πŸ’Ž Lesson 2: Scrap Metal Hat - junkyard sci-fi aesthetic hat
  • πŸ’Ž Lesson 3: Scrappers Backpack - matching sci-fi junker back accessory
  • πŸ’Ž Lesson 4: Rover the Astro-pup - astronaut-styled animal companion
  • πŸ’Ž Lesson 5: Supernova Pauldrons - star-explosion shoulder armor
  • πŸ’Ž Lesson 6: Hyperspace Jetpack - flight-themed back accessory

Players watched a video walkthrough at the hub place, completed Roblox Studio exercises offline (building a full sci-fi racing game across all six lessons), then returned to pass a multiple-choice quiz that triggered the badge and item reward for each lesson. All rewards were granted in-event with no promo codes - item acquisition is no longer possible today.

Galactic Speedway marked the end of the original Creator Challenge series. After the event concluded in February 2020, Roblox transitioned to the Build It, Play It format (Mansion of Wonder, Island of Move). The hub at place ID 4201429814 remains reachable on Roblox with approximately 76 million lifetime visits, though the active mechanics that awarded the six items have been retired.

Ask in our Discord
What was the Galactic Speedway Creator Challenge?
Galactic Speedway Creator Challenge was a Roblox educational event running November 19, 2019 through February 3, 2020. Co-promoted with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it taught Roblox Studio scripting through six lessons that built a sci-fi racing game, awarding six free avatar items along the way.
When did the Galactic Speedway Creator Challenge run?
The event launched on November 19, 2019 - one month before Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hit theaters - and ended on February 3, 2020. The hub place is still reachable on Roblox today, but the active mechanics that awarded the items have been retired.
What rewards did the Galactic Speedway Creator Challenge give?
Six free avatar items: the Saturn Ring Hat, Scrap Metal Hat, Scrappers Backpack, Rover the Astro-pup, Supernova Pauldrons, and Hyperspace Jetpack. Each was tied to one of the six lessons. There were no redeemable promo codes - all rewards came from completing the in-event lessons.
Why did this Creator Challenge have six rewards instead of three?
Galactic Speedway was the fourth and most ambitious entry in the Creator Challenge series. Roblox doubled the lesson count from three to six to extend learner engagement and surface more reward hooks. The six-lesson racing-game build was substantially more sophisticated than its predecessors.
Was this event a Star Wars promotion?
It was a co-promotion. The Galactic Speedway name and most of the avatar items used a generic sci-fi racing theme, while Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker served as the headline sponsor. Star Wars-specific items like D-O and The Rise of Skywalker Cap were distributed during the same window through separate channels.
