About Backpacking
Backpacking is an open-world camping and exploration roleplay game on Roblox developed by the Abracadabra group (primary developer: Simonblox) where players pitch tents at campsites, earn passive Camp Currency by staying camped, and spend it on upgrades, vehicles, and decorations. Launched in June 2018, it has accumulated over 324 million visits and 1.27 million favorites, making it one of the largest hangout experiences on the platform with 600-1,500 concurrent players maintained across its eight-year run.
The core loop is deliberately unhurried: collect a backpack at spawn, choose a tent color, head out to find a campsite, and pitch your tent. The longer your tent stays pitched, the more Camp Currency accumulates passively. Marshmallows - a secondary campfire-themed currency - can be spent on premium cosmetics and are occasionally rewarded through codes and campfire activities. Social play drives most sessions: players camp near each other, compare decorated sites, and explore together by ATV or vehicle. There are no objectives, no combat, and no quests:
- π Tent and campsite - pitching your tent at a designated campsite generates passive Camp Currency over time
- π Vehicles - ATVs, cars, and other transport for exploring the open-world map; rarer vehicles are visible status symbols
- πΊοΈ Mountain climbing - reach the Summit badge by ascending the map's mountain peak
- π Mini-games - fishing (King Fisher badge), kayaking (Kayaking Winner!), and a Strongman machine challenge
- π Egg hatching - eggs found in the world hatch for pet or cosmetic companions
Eight badges document the full range of activities: Summit, Kayaking Winner!, King Fisher, Backpacking Hatch Egg, Treasurer, and a developer encounter badge for meeting the Abracadabra Studio team. The Extended Fish Backpack pass (230 Robux) is the only currently-sold pass, expanding fishing inventory for more efficient sessions.
