The Backrooms is a liminal horror exploration game on Roblox by solo developer TheInfernoBoy1, based on the internet's Backrooms creepypasta mythology. Launched in August 2022, it has grown to over 88.5 million visits and 478K favorites, making it one of the most successful horror games on the platform. Players noclip through reality into a sprawling 32-level structure and must find one of three different endings while navigating entities, puzzles, and increasingly surreal environments across 12-player servers.

The progression loop is built entirely around exploration and survival. Each level is a separate environment with distinct challenges, and your progress is saved through badge collection - completing a level awards a badge that acts as your checkpoint, so deleting your badges means losing your save.
